ABOUT QUITEL - HISTORY
Founded in 1969 by Professors Pullman (France) and Del Re (Italy)
The QUITEL congress originated from discussions between Professors Pullman and Giuseppe del Re, aiming to overcome linguistic barriers in theoretical chemistry among Latin language speakers.
Instead of using one universal language, they realized that researchers from Latin countries could understand each other better
using their native Romance languages, given the shared scientific terminology. The first meeting was organized in 1969 in
Modena, Italy, followed by annual gatherings rotating among different countries.
Over the years, QUITEL expanded from meetings between French and Italian chemists to include Spain, Portugal and Latin
America in the 1970s, and later North Africa. Since 2003, the conferences have alternated among Europe, Africa, and Latin
America, promoting collaboration among researchers across three continents. Notably, events have taken place in major cities and involved prominent chemists as organizers and committee members.
QUITEL has established itself as a key annual event for theoretical and computational chemists of Latin expression,
fostering international scientific communication, exchange, and long-term continuity.
